Verkoissa, Caught in the web

Koko maailma alkaa olla samassa verkossa. World Wide Web ulottaa jo lonkeronsa syrjäsimmillekin seuduille. Monilla meistä on monta laitetta, joiden avulla olemme siellä mukana.
Itsekin olen samassa verkossa, tottakai.

Maailma on muuttunut. Liiallinen teknologia-tietoähky voi aiheuttaa ahdistusta. Nimettömyys antaa mahdollisuuksia kiusaamiselle ja ilkeilylle.
Monet iäkkäämmistä ihmisistä ovat kokonaan verkon ulkopuolella - mikä on toisaalta hyvä, mutta asioiden hoitamisen kannalta hankalaa. Niin paljon ennen henkilökohtaisesti hoidetuista asioista on siirtynyt verkkoon. Samalla kadonnut työpaikkoja ja paljon ihmisten välistä kanssakäymistä.

Tähän on tultu: tekniikka on ottanut vallan. Ei siis ihme, että etsimme pakokeinoja. Meillä suomalaisilla on metsä. Metsään meneminen on noussut arvoon arvaamattomaan. Puhutaan terveysmetsistä, luonnon  parantavista voimista monella tavalla. Eikä sitä enää kukaan kyseenalaista. Puiden halaaminen on normaalia, metsäkävely suositeltavaa. Ja jos vielä pystyy metsässäolon ajaksi irrottautumaan verkosta, voi kytkeytyä metsän verkkoon, Wood Wide Webiin. Se on se verkko, johon me luontaisesti kuulumme.

The whole world is starting to be in the same web: World Wide Web is already reaching even the most remote areas. Many of us have multiple devices to access the web.
Continuous news stream, news of catastrophes, the threat of climate change and running competitively after something more are typical of our time. Not to even mention social media. If you can’t be found online, you don’t exist.
I’m in the same web myself, of course. Linked to it right now. But little by little it has begun to cause anxiety. How can I get free, when the web is so tightly around me?

I’m quite modest in my IT skills, most of the time I just check what’s going on in the world in addition to running an online store. Still I spend an annoying amount of time caught in the web.
For the young, today’s technology equals pen and paper or a book. I don’t know whether that is a good or a bad thing. The world has changed. Too much technology and information can cause anxiety. The ability to be anonymous gives the opportunity to bully and be mean.
Many older people are entirely outside the web – a good thing on one hand but also tricky when it comes to running errands. So many things that we used to handle personally are now handled online. At the same time, many jobs and plenty of human interaction have disappeared.
This is where we are now: technology has taken over. It’s no wonder then that we are looking for ways to escape. Us Finns have the forest. Going into the woods has become more valuable than we know. There is talk of health woods, the healing powers of nature in many ways. And no one questions it anymore. Hugging trees is normal, walking in the woods is recommended. And if you still can extract yourself from the web during your time in the woods, you can connect to Wood Wide Web. That’s the web where we naturally belong.
