Uusi vuosi - mikä muuttui? New Year - what changed?

Vuosiluku on vaihtunut. Tapana on tehdä uudenvuodenlupauksia. Aloittaa parempi elämä. Terveellisempi.
Oman olotilan kuuntelu vaan tuntuu unohtuvan liian usein. On oltava todella valmis muutoksiin ennenkuin hyppää taas uuteen.
Itse voisin tehdä lupauksen vähentää tietokoneella istumista. Tästä laitteesta on tullut elämäni keskipiste.
New Year – what changed?
The new year has begun. Customarily, people make New Year’s resolutions. They wow to start a better life. A healthier life. The number one resolutions are probably losing weight, increasing exercise and thus the attempt to be in bikini shape next summer. It’s the right thing to do to take care of our bodies, because there’s no other option. No one else will sleep for us, exercise for us, let alone eat for us. The responsibility is ours and ours only – at least as adults. Children should also be taught to listen to how they feel. It isn’t rare for parents to despair over what children eat but actually children know perfectly well what they need, at least until the environment starts to influence them. If candy or other sweet things are nowhere to be found, children won’t demand them.
We just seem to too often forget to listen to how we feel. There’s so much information from the outside and we don’t have time to stop. We pick the easiest option, take the path of least resistance. The diet, the way of life, the exercise that is quick, super, unique and which promises many other amazing things just like that. Yet you are the one that has to make them happen. You have to be really ready for changes before jumping into something new.
The resolution I could make is to reduce the amount of time I spent on the computer. This machine has become the center point of my life. Partly that is due to running an Internet store and of course many other things can only be found online. And the same addiction of course continues with the mobile phone. I’m old enough to have lived through the times when phone calls were relayed manually, and when phones were not yet worshipped like they are now. If you were at home when the phone rang, you picked it up; if you weren’t at home, the call was lost. There was no way to tell if someone had called while you were away. Books and newspapers gave all the information necessary and everything happened much, much slower.
I can say that I jumped out of the rat race but at the same time became a prisoner of the web. I can only imagine what life must be like when you have a hectic job which requires you to be attached to the web and its flood of information all the time.
Luckily we have books. The conscious decision to shut down the computer and pick up a book is a good one. The world will not end even if I’m not online and up the date all the time. And I can go outside, to the woods where the only webs are those skillfully built by spiders!
